Help. my geraniums are not blooming at all the way they were 1st month. some leaves are yellowish too?
are on south porch in hanging plastic pots. get 1 1/2 cups water daily. did spray all leaves good w/bug killer for flowers 2 wks ago.Help. my geraniums are not blooming at all the way they were 1st month. some leaves are yellowish too?
Since they are in hanging pots try this...put your hand under the pot and lift up. If the pot feels heavy, the plants are saturated and do not need any water...but if the pot feels light the water has been running off and not getting to the roots.
(Yellow leaves can indicate both to much and to little water. )
If the pots are heavy do not water again until they begin to feel light.
If the pots feel light take them down and soak them overnight in the kitchen sink. You should only have to do this once, however if the pots should feel really light again, do it again. It won't hurt if you do this once every 6 or 7 days.
Next, remove any yellow leaves - as they will never turn back to green and they make the plants look bad.
Follow that by removing every dead flower on the geraniums. You will need to keep the dead and/or dying ones picked off so that energy goes to making new blooms - not trying to keep the dying ones alive.
Finally, give them a little fertilizer with every watering - about every 5 or 6 or 7 days. (remember to check to see if the pot is light) Mix up the fertilizer and keep it in a large jar with a lid (a 2 litter soda bottle works fine). When you buy the fertilizer get the one where the 2nd # is the highest. )The first # is for top growth (leaves), the second for blooms, the third for root development.)
Sometimes the roots are to far gone and no matter how well you begin to take care of them, they die. I hope yours recover and you have beautiful blooms the rest of the season. :)Help. my geraniums are not blooming at all the way they were 1st month. some leaves are yellowish too?
too much water.... wet soil good every three or four days
Hi ; Have you been giving plant food?Is it in an pot or in the ground? If it,s in a pot Flush it with water at least 3 times. It may have salt from the water.Your leaves should get greener....JW
Be sure you removing the dead clusters (pinch where stem of cluster meets main stem).
This encourages new growth.
i would use miracle grow and watera little bit more often. also deadhead anyn finished flowers.
Your watering them to death. Water only every three days or so , when they feel dry, with some plant food in the water each time to keep them blooming.
Its good you explained your garden positions, but to tell you the truth, like a disease in humans, it is best to isolate one thing at a time till you are able to diagnosis the problem.
Yellowish leaves can be pinpointed towards several factors. Where on the flower top/mid/bottom is the yellowing starting? from the tips or the middle veins....
I want to tell you that yellowing is usually a lack of Nitrogen, although every location/grower can be unique therefore before you try to go to your local store, and purchase fertilizer, do not come to hasty decisions.
I would suggest you do several things, if you see that the flower is truly wilting at an increased pace.
1. Re-pot the whole thing - if you see incredible rate of wilt - (if the bottom of the plastic pot gives off sewage odors, or too swampy, your roots were probably dying because of lack of oxygen)
1a. Repot the whole thing, %26amp; only moisten your roots when you replant
1b. Feed your plants/ or foliar feed @ around sunrise %26amp; around sunset
2. Usually if you live in ';non-extreme'; climates, you should just mimic the weather. Sometimes it pours, sometimes it dries, when extended dry periods happens then you could help out, or when you see uniform yellowing or lack of fertilizers.
3. Do not use bug killers, usually the chemical/synthetics you using may not kill plants, but perhaps it has accumulated on the bottom of the pot, making it a bit salty %26amp; swampy stink. Especially in plastics, not really terracotta. You can kill most bugs by seeing them.
4. If the bottom of the pot is dry, and your soil dry, then examine the yellowing of the leave. If it is yellowing from the middle (vein) not the sides.
4a. Go collect some Nitrogen/minerals by not wasting your URINE, yes urine. Make sure you eat healthy foods, not just some junk protein %26amp; fats, your urine will reflect your habits.
Take a gallon jug, and attempt to start by mixing (natural) Nitrogen/fertilizer in as small amount as possible. Start with 1/4 fl ounce to a gallon as a start. Do not pour it directly on the stem %26amp; leaves or soil yet. Shake up the gallon bottle as much as possible (enrich with oxygen for roots), then pour/drench it in the dry soil, as if it was a raining day. Soak it - then don't water it until you are sure you it dries out then water with tap water is fine.
REMEMBER start at diluted levels, and as your Geri's grow, its intake level will correspond in relations to its growth, like a teenager. Feed maybe one every two weeks or one a week. Do not over feed fertilizers, or you will have to re-pot often
5. put some worm casting or worms in your pot
End note - Your urine %26amp; feces is quite shunned upon in society today, and I understand this fact. You can buy cow poop at Home Depot I noticed, for quite a sum of money...........
if you bury your poop, under soil, flies are unable to lay eggs %26amp; organic decomposition produces the essential diets for your plants. Some fertilizers from stores are not easily broken down in soil and not easily taken up by plants.
Think about it. You are basically feeding your plants, what you consume, if you don't eat fast food everyday.
Do not over fertilize, or you will have yellowing of your plant.
Successful botany, is much like a balancing act of patience. You don't want to be too extreme of anything. And after several experiences, and not quitting after failures, I am sure you will began to get the hang of it.

How to root a Kwanza Blooming Cherry Tree that has been broken at the base ?
Tree was cut midway and friend wants to take tree or branch of tree and replant in her yard. Is there any special instructions for helping this tree grow ?
Is it similiar to the flower or vine process in which you place in water til it has roots then plant ?How to root a Kwanza Blooming Cherry Tree that has been broken at the base ?
try cutting some fresh growth off the tips of the limbs...then dip the stems in a rooting hormone powder.(rootone). then plant it and water regurlary.

Nothing special. Transplant as any other tree. If it makes it, you are ahead. If not, well it was a gonner anyway.

Lord Of The Rings question. Legolas && Orlando Bloom!?
Hey! Does anyone know the type of contacts Orlando Bloom wore to make his eyes blue in the movie and where can I get his bow and arrow kit (real for archery) because I want to use it as my bow and arrow in the sport of archery.Lord Of The Rings question. Legolas %26amp;%26amp; Orlando Bloom!?
I don't know about the contacts, but I found a couple websites that sell the bow %26amp; arrow.

http://www.buildabow.com/legolasbow.htmlLord Of The Rings question. Legolas %26amp;%26amp; Orlando Bloom!?
Well, when I bought the original DVD, there was a catalog of some LOTR stuff included. There were jewelries and things that were seen in the movie, like Arwen's tiara, The Ring itself and even some weapons like Aragorn's sword. However, there was no bow and arrow kit, and if there was, I doubt it would be a working one. Also no contact lenses.
lol. no. i'm pretty sure his was specially designed for the movie i doubt they sale it. it's somewhat dangerous and New Line probably wouldn't want to get sued. but you could just buy one and decorate it to look like his.
and i'm sure any blue contacts will do just fine. lol.loan rates

Unusual magenta colored flower that blooms in the snow?
There is a very unusual flower that grows in the Sierras in California (Plumas County, for example) in early Spring. Its color is hot pink or magenta, and it's almost like an iceplant. I'm looking for the name. Can you help?Unusual magenta colored flower that blooms in the snow?
Not sure if this will help, but this is pretty much the information I found for you, maybe on of the ones on this page is the flower hope it helps, good luck!

My daffodils are not blooming- The leaves are up but no buds or blooms?
These have only been planted for about 3 years - I have only gotten blooms in year 1 - last year I thought because of the lack of rain they did not bloom but now this year we have had rain and sun but still not blooms. My daffodils are not blooming- The leaves are up but no buds or blooms?
My johnquils are the same way. They just last week started getting the full light of the sun, and should start to bloom by Easter weekend (this weekend). Mine have been planted about 9 years, and they do this late thing every year. When autumn arrives, you might want to relocate them to a more southern -eastern location. My daffodils are not blooming- The leaves are up but no buds or blooms?
Don't give yourself a hard time for this, as the bulb producers give their plants almost near perfect conditions, in order to fatten the bulbs up, ready to produce flowers. Then they fall into our hands...
Daffodils benefit from being divided every 3 or 4 years, as they readily divide, and become overcrowded.
Do this this year, after feeding them whilst growing, especially if you have a fertilizer with a high Potassium - K, within its mix. Or potentially add a top dressing of something like Sulphate of Potash, Potassium Sulphate. Fertilizers sold will generally show their N:P:K ratio, on their containers.
Potassium is the mineral needed by plants in order to form flowers, and will often nudge plants that haven't flowered into forming them - bulbs or otherwise.
After feeding them, leave them to die down naturally, divide them and replant, or else allow them to dry off, keeping them somewhere safe and dry, like a garden shed, where rodents etc. won't eat them.
Add some humous, like garden compost, and potentially a good all round plant fertliser into their hole, before planting too. Give them a good site, with reasonable sunlight, as this will help strengthem them, when they grow next year. With a bit of luck, you could get flowers next year, but it may need them to grow with less competition for a season or two before they're back in flower.
Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob
Did you cut the leaves off after they bloomed last time? If you did not wait until they yellowed, they may not have gotten enough energy to bloom.
may need fertilizer, or just not ready to bloom. they will have flags for a time before stalk with bloom comes.loan rates

My butterfly bush is big, beautiful and has had lots of blooms but is top heavy. Will it hurt to cut it back?
Most of the foliage is in the top half, with not much foliage halfway down. It is falling over and I don't want to lose it but I don't know how much to prune back. Can anyone help? My butterfly bush is big, beautiful and has had lots of blooms but is top heavy. Will it hurt to cut it back?
wait for it to go dormant for the winter, then prune it back short. next spring it will come back with a vengeance, as the summer progresses, prune back as needed and blooms die, feed it well and it will go nutsMy butterfly bush is big, beautiful and has had lots of blooms but is top heavy. Will it hurt to cut it back?
No, in fact it's good to prune them. It will encourage it to bush out on the bottom. You can prune fairly aggressively but remember that, depending on where you live, it may be coming to the end of the growing season and it won't have alot of time to recover. That's okay though as it will come back next season.

We have a shrub that's buds look like berries and blooms a deep pink color. Does anyone know what it is?
The blooms are a deep pink color with white around the edges. It started blooming about 2 months ago and is still going strong. The shrub is only about 2 foot high and there is an abundance of blooms and the buds really look like deep red almost maroon berries that bloom into the flowers. And ideas on what it could be will greatly help.We have a shrub that's buds look like berries and blooms a deep pink color. Does anyone know what it is?

I haven't seen those movies. But, I can tell you....Johnny Depp has it all over Orlando Bloom. I don't see why Orlando is considered so sexy. I really don't find him all that attractive.
Even grungey.....as in Pirates of the Caribbean....Johnny Depp is smokin!
I don't think so because Johnny Depp is too old to be cute anyway.

They are both very handsome men, but Bloom has just got those eyes and that face and that curly hair, I just LOVE to run my fingers through it. Whew!! .... Mercy!! Johnny Depp is gorgeous, but Bloom just has that little something extra, I don't know what it is, but he has it, no doubt!!

I cannot find a 3 set print of roses, one the start, one the bud, one the bloomed rose. Help!!?
I would like to hang three picture's on my wall and cannot find where to buy this on the internet. The three pictures would be the life stages of a rose. Does anyone know where I can find this?I cannot find a 3 set print of roses, one the start, one the bud, one the bloomed rose. Help!!?
You would find it difficult to get the same rose in all 3 stages of development?
Get yourself a good digy camera and go and take your own photo's of roses which depict the 3 stages of development you want from a rose. That way you know they are from the same variety of rose.I cannot find a 3 set print of roses, one the start, one the bud, one the bloomed rose. Help!!?
Personally, I'd go out and take pictures myself.
It'd probably also be really easy to find pictures of that description, maybe by different photographers, but they could still look good together.
I don't know of any set prints, though.

Can you start a magnolia tree from one of it's blooms?
I have a bloom from a magnolia tree. It hasn't totally bloomed into a flower yet.. still looks like a soft pine cone. Am I able to put this in water or dirt to get it to root so I can start my own tree? Can you start a magnolia tree from one of it's blooms?
Speaking for Southern Magnolias, they form a seed pod that resembles what you are describing. The seeds inside will sprout into a new tree with much good luck.
This is a pic from the internet of a seed pod.
The red ';berries'; contain the seeds.

no..... you'd need to leave that bloom on the tree until it sets seeds and the seeds develop and ripen.... then you could start the seeds to get a tree..... takes a long time..... but worth it if you have the patience....

It takes a while for an orchid to flower after it has already flowered, so it should bloom in about 3 months just make sure to give it alot of fertilizer.I have an Orchid in my office that had 2-4 blooms the first couple weeks and now is bare?
Has the temperature in the office changed? Is the heat running? Make sure it is not in any drafts.

I don't like him with that hairstyle but otherwise he's very HOT!
The only reason he had a mohawk is so he wouldn't get so hot while he was wearing the blond wig for his character ';Legolas'; in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
ew,gross! i nvr knew he had that
I am with you on this one ~ I think the structure of Orlando's face does not allow him to look hot with haircut of mohawk nature. He is more sexier with longer hair.loan rates

Should the flower stalk of an Aloe plant be removed after blooming?
I have a very large (3-4 ft. tall) aloe plant that is around 5 years old. This spring it decided to send up a flower stalk which branched and produced 2 wonderful flowers. I have heard that you should remove the stalk after they have flowered but cannot find any documentation on it either way. Anyone out there experienced enough to know?Should the flower stalk of an Aloe plant be removed after blooming?
you don't have to remove the stalk. It actually dies off on it's own. We have had aloes for years, and they have bloomed many times, and we never removed the stalk. I don't think anything happens to the aloe plant because nothing ever happened to mine.

If we're talking pretty -Jordan Catalano in My So-called Life.

I would have to say Keith Urban, Denzel Washington, Micheal Jordon, Kenny Chesney's ***. But I do love Johnny Depp.
Victoria Beckham, Jocelyn Beckford, Janet Depp and Natalie Bloom!
RICHARD 'hamster' HAMMOND always loved him and now he's more well known I can shout it from the rooftops get well soon xx
David Beckham
LL COOL J gotta love when he licks those lips
Who the hell place Bob Geldoff in this race. That Mother looks like a Shar pei on speed. Beckham is bed sexy. Beckford is gay sexy. Depp is gypsie caravan sexy. Bloom is girlie sensitive sexy with a twist of lime.
Beckham has a sissy voice, Tyson looks like a thug and should be successor to Iron Mike, Bloom is a sissy and Johnny is a damn cool humble dude.
Tom Cruise would beat them in purely looks but he is too short. So I have to say George Clooney- good looking, suave, charming and smart enough.
I would watch a Johnny Depp movie over all of the above though.
Well Mahmood you look just like me in your pic so I'd have to say you

Rhododendrons, how necessary is it to cut off all old blooms ?
How will it affect the rhododendron bush if I don't cut off all the old blooms, will it bloom less next season ?Rhododendrons, how necessary is it to cut off all old blooms ?
not necessary at all. no it will not bloom any less next year leave it alone they take of them self, if u don't touch it it will bloom even more next year,Rhododendrons, how necessary is it to cut off all old blooms ?
Buds for next year, form on new growth, so no, you don't have to take the old blooms off, but I do if they start looking tacky. But mine is now about 8 ft tall and 5 ft. wide, so is impossible to get them all.
it's not necessary, but sometimes its nice to do a little trimming to make it look neat and tidy. it depends what look you're going for.
It makes the plant look ugly if you don't clip them off.

My peace lilies won't bloom?
I received peace lilies from my father's funeral. I eventually had to repot them and they have never bloomed again no matter what water, fertilizer, etc. I use. The leaves are always green and beautiful but no blooms! Any more suggestions? My peace lilies won't bloom?
Try starvation!Over feeding and over watering will produce foliage at the expense of flowering.
Put the plant into the smallest pot which will accommodate the root ball, keep in good light, but not in direct sunlight, somewhere quite cool.(i.e.not on a sunny windowsill,or near a radiator).
If the compost is kept moist, without being sodden this will aid flowering.
Take offshoots from around the edge of the existing plant and insert in a 2-2.5 pot.New plants flower best, older ones tend to exhaust their energy in the first flowering. My peace lilies won't bloom?
A peace lily will not usually send up blooms again until it is pot bound which will make you want to toss it out because by that time, you will have a hard time keeping it watered. The only way to remedy that is to re-pot into a bigger pot which means no blooms until it fills up that pot and the cycle starts all over again. I have heard that there is a spray that the growers use to make the plant flower, but it is not available to the public. Be happy with your green leaves.
usually a sunny window is what they need. they tolerate darkness and will stay nice, but they will not bloom unless they get some bright light. also they seem to bloom more during the winter than the summer, but has scattered blooms all year.
let it get more sunlight. but avoid full sun exposure.
poor winter light...give them a holiday outside in summer they bloom like crazy or failing that strong indirect sunlight indoors %26amp; don't over feed!! it'll just encourage to produce lush growth ,sacrificing the flowers.
more sunlight and patience. the florist maxxed it out, now it has to recover

What kind of flower blooms at midnight?
I think I heard of such a thing but I'm not sure. What kind of flower blooms at midnight?
Mauerbl眉mchen looking good at midnight after a few drinks. What kind of flower blooms at midnight?
I believe it is called the Marla Singer Man Trap.
somebody called?
Plants such as Cestrum nocturnum of family Solanaceae (Brinjal family), Nyctanthes sp. of family Nyctaginaceae blossom at night.
There are many flowers that bloom only at night. Most of these are pollinated by moths. I think the only British example is the night-flowering catchfly, Silene noctiflora.
The only other example I can name specifically is several species of wild pineapple are pollinated by bats.
The Vampires necrophilia-rose, or is it the Werewolves maul-flower?
There are flower s that bloom in the evening...not sure which one would actually have an internal clock to know it would be midnight. The evening primrose is one that blooms in the evening.

What is the best flowers to plant for reoccuring blooming...and when is the best time?
Annuals, when fertilized and dead headed will bloom continuously through the growing season - typically you plant them in the spring and they last till fall, depending on the temperature range.
They are available in a huge variety that provides an excellent choice of colours, sizes, aromas and there is a variety to fit any soil, water or light situation.
Down side is you need to replace them every year, but that is part of the fun. What is the best flowers to plant for reoccuring blooming...and when is the best time?

you didn't say which part of the country you live in (so I don't know which zone you live in). I suggest you request a catalog from http://www.burpee.com and review the catalog.
Where are you. What climate? Roses are good if you're willing to prune in winter and keep them under control and deadhead them through the summer. If you deadhead, they will continue to bloom. If you don't all the plant's energy goes into seed production which is a bit of a waste since they're mainly hybrids and sterile. Plant now at the latest or get more advanced bushes to plant later. Other than that camellias are great as a shrub.

I have an amaryllis, 2 stalks 4 blooms each. should I cut the center blooms to make the others last longer?
no it won't increase the longevity of the other blooms.
remember to remove the pollen before it ripens and
you can also train the blooms to all fit the area that is available.
keep the plant in a cool room to extend the length of bloom

My acorn squash blooms but then teh buds fall off?
its just like flowers then it falls off.. whats wrong with it?My acorn squash blooms but then teh buds fall off?
it could be any of those things, but you could try self polinating. just take the tip of a pencil and stick it briefly into the heart of each flower. it still may not work, but also remember that the fruits come in behind the blooms. check for a little growth before you mess with it too much.My acorn squash blooms but then teh buds fall off?
Here it's the weather. It got too hot too quick and before the fruit set some of it aborted. Don't give up. The bees could have fertilzed some of them. It happened here two years in a row for me. I have very few pumpkins.
You will be alright! You can rinse them and dip them in thin pancake batter and deep fry them, I hear it helps you to fight allergies. Any of those big yellow squash flowers.
That's normal;-} it's growing seeds if fertilized.
by chance is it just producing male flowers at this time...the female flower will have a small fruit behind the flower
either it is poor weather or somthing is steppin on it or u need to take care of it

I had split irises due to rot and some bloomed this year and some didnt could it be?
Because I didnt expose the root bulb as much as I should have?I had split irises due to rot and some bloomed this year and some didnt could it be?
It could be, but it could be that you only need to be patient and see if they bloom the next season. Is the foliage on the nonbloomers nice or do they look ill. If they look ill then I would suggest that you remove them. If they look nice then give them a chance to grow a bit more rhizome. Good LuckI had split irises due to rot and some bloomed this year and some didnt could it be?
Look up 'Iris borers'. That sounds like what you have. You will have to dig and get rid of the damaged ones, then replant.
their on many home and garden websites, they offer free advice, some even have free magazine articles on the specific subjects.
;) its possible then again maybe a defective bulb

What is an algal bloom?
what is an algal bloom? explain why unpleasant odors and tastes can occur in city water supplies because of an algal bloom.
-thank you to anyone who takes the time to answer (:What is an algal bloom?
An algal bloom is a rapid increase in the population of algae in an aquatic system. Algal blooms may occur in freshwater as well as marine environments. Typically, only one or a small number of phytoplankton species are involved, and some blooms may be recognized by discoloration of the water resulting from the high density of pigmented cells. Although there is no officially recognized threshold level, algae can be considered to be blooming at concentrations of hundreds to thousands of cells per milliliter, depending on the severity. Algal bloom concentrations may reach millions of cells per milliliter. Algal blooms are often green, but they can also be yellow-brown or red, depending on the species of algae.
Algal blooms sometimes occur in drinking water supplies. In such cases, toxins from the bloom can survive standard water purifying treatments.

Canna lillies don't bloom...?
does anyone have an idea why my canna lillies don't bloom? I bought a new one and it's blooming right now, all others that i planted in the spring are even bigger than that one, but only bring out more leafs.Canna lillies don't bloom...?
My guess is that you planted late and the bulbs had not been refrigerated as most bulbs require the change from cold to warmer to do better..Canna lillies don't bloom...?
Could be the soil content. May need certain chemicals or minerals to flower.
http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/hortnews/鈥?/a>
';Cannas (Canna x generalis) add a tropical appearance to annual and perennial gardens. The large green, red or striped foliage make excellent backgrounds, temporary screens or focal points in the garden. Tall scapes of bright flower colors bloom from mid-summer into early fall. Cannas are available in standard (3 to 6' tall) and dwarf (2 to 3' tall) varieties. Plant firm, healthy canna rhizomes a week before the average frost date in your area. Select a full-sun location that contains rich, moist soil. Plant the rhizomes horizontally about 6'; deep and 18'; apart with the buds upright. Keep the plants well watered and fertilize once or twice a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Remove spent blooms.';
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con鈥?/a>
';Canna lily: There are numerous hybrids of cannas available. They bloom in many colors, including rose, pink, yellow, red and orange, and they can grow three to six feet tall. Their greatest asset is that they bloom all summer. Prune stalks with fading flowers and others grow to replace them. Plant in a protected site in full sun. Lay a few inches of mulch over roots for winter, but canna's rhizomes will not survive frozen soil. So, you can also dig and store them in a cool, dry place during winter. Plant about an inch deep in well-drained soil, rich in organic material.';
Best wishes!
Depending on it's environment, it might be dedicating itself to growing. If the plant is new and not yet established in your planted area, it might forgo blooming. (Blooming takes a lot of energy.) You might have also planted a bit late for cannas or your bulbs did not go through ideal conditions.
Some people might have the perfect conditions for growth (and a good water source) for cannas and it can grow to full bloom. You might want to help accelerate it's care by additional watering and some plant supplements.
If it doesn't bloom this year, you will more likely have a bloom NEXT year since by that time, the plant will have a larger root system in place.
P.S. Other things to consider is soil type, soil hardness, and surrounding plants (their root systems).

Snowball bush won't bloom?
Probably has another name, it is in the hydrangea family. It gets bigger every year and has beautiful leaves, but no blooms. I got it as a start from another plant, and I have had it 3 years.Snowball bush won't bloom?
Some varieties don't bloom year after year.
A lack of blooms could be due to pruning at the wrong time or a general lack of phosphorous in the soil, which can be used throughout the growing season to encourage blooms.
The smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens), bloom on new wood so if you prune in late winter or early spring, you won't accidentally cut off this year's flowers. Others, like some mopheads and many big-leaf hydrangeas (H. macrophylla) bloom on old wood, so any late-season (or fall or winter) pruning you do erases next year's flowers. To stay on the safe side, and if you don't know which type you have, prune off only the spent blooms. *Snowball bush won't bloom?
keep in a shaded area. fertilize in the fall (this will increase the root mass), then fertilize again in the spring, blooms will set on. It is not unusual for a hydrangea to skip a year of blooms, especially if untreated.
i have 2 hydrangea and snowball bushes, you don't to cut them back. i don't , but i do is feed them with miracle grow very 2 weeks until late sept. they all bloom every year. also you can put a rusty nail or 2 in the ground around the hydrangeas they like what it does to the soil.

Pruning spent blooms on clematis?
We have recently planted numerous (5) different clematis. One of them has a brillient green swirl of stems where each spent flower had been. Do we prune these off, or do leave them alone?Pruning spent blooms on clematis?
As Stuart said, leave them alone. Train the vines to go where you want only during the summer. In the fall after the leaves fall off don't touch the vines. They will become brittle and appear to be dead. In the spring they slowly come back to life. The ends of the vines will take the longest to get leaves back and stay brittle until this happens.Pruning spent blooms on clematis?
Leave them alone. They will continue to grow, and climb your trellis all summer.

Flowers that rarely bloom?
Where can I find a list of flowers that don't bloom often?Flowers that rarely bloom?
Plants that flower this way are referred to as mast flowering or gregarious flowering meaning they have periodic pulses of coordinated flowering. These plants take several years to gather resources to flower in synchrony over a large area. Plietesial plants are similar, they grow for a number of years, flower gregariously, but then set seed and die where the other that mast repeat their cycle.

For mast flowering plants there are the Strobilanthes. Specifically the Kurinji flower (Strobilanthes kunthianus) bloom only once in 12 years (last one in 2006). Other members of the genus share the strategy and flowering cycles range from annual to 16 year periods. Many seem to be plietesial flowering

Certain bamboo are well known for their plietesial blooming. An Asian bamboo species, Melocanna baccifera, erupts in flowers about every forty-eight years, an event known as the Mautam.
Important Rain Forest canopy trees in the family Dipterocarpaceae, reproduce in gregarious mast flower-fruiting events once every 2鈥?1 years at irregular intervals but at least twice per decade in recorded history.

Masting specifically occurs in the tropic areas with variable rainfall patterns.

Night Blooming Jasmine with no bloom
I have a night blooming jasmine plant and it hasn't bloomed once and everyday its packed with yellow leaves. I water it and give it sun and shade, what am i doing wrong?Night Blooming Jasmine with no bloom
Assuming that you are growing this as an annual, outside, in a container, with quality potting mix and adequate drainage...
Here are my suggestions:
The lack of blooms can be caused by too little sun and/or over watering. The plant should receive at least 6 hours of sun, avoiding the very hot afternoon sun.
Your yellow leaves sound like over-watering... Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. But careful not to allow the plant to wilt. Use a natural liquid fertilizer like fish emulsion to feed.
Provided you have no diseases or pests... this should do the trick! Good luck and happy gardening!

Why do my squash have no female blooms?
My squash are not setting any fruit because they don't even develope a female bloom, maybe one to the plant. This is happening to all of my plants, five total plants. What is causing this in northern Idaho in sandy soil. Why do my squash have no female blooms?
From the squash plants I've grown both bush and vining, the female (pistillate) blossoms appear after the male (staminate) flowers appear. The petals are attached to the top of the ovary. The pistillate flowers will have a swelling beneath the petals. If there are female flowers present then there is a possibility that the blossoms are not being pollinated. If you find the female flowers you can pick the male blossom, retract the petals exposing the stamens and brush them against the stigma of the female flower.
You may have too short a growing season in northern Idaho for the female blossoms to mature. When I lived in Wyoming, we would start the squash, watermelons, and cantaloupe indoors so they would have a head start when we planted in the garden. Why do my squash have no female blooms?
My best guess is too much nitrogen

Probably needs more sun. Mine used to bloom in almost full sun. (it's dead now!! ) Yellow leaves might mean too much water. You could try a fertiliser with high middle number to promote bloom.

Any1 who's seen Elizabeth town with Orlando Bloom and Kristin Dunst or ppl that study names?
well in that movie kristin is a flight attendant that says she specializes in name meanings. is there anything like that and what is it? how do u study a name???
it sounds interesting.Any1 who's seen Elizabeth town with Orlando Bloom and Kristin Dunst or ppl that study names?
I don't think there is anything to it. She was talking about certain characteristics that go with a name. Obviously this can't be true - except in the same that that horoscopes can be true. To assume a name carries certain characteristics would mean that by giving you a specific name your parents were giving you certain characteristics.
However, many names are derivatives of other words or have their own meanings. For example my name, Justin, means just or righteous.Any1 who's seen Elizabeth town with Orlando Bloom and Kristin Dunst or ppl that study names?

He's apparently working on designing a Penthouse Suite on the top floor of condo's he's building. That's why he's at this particular building. A lot of students say that they go over and hang out with him.

Who is the best keanu reeves or orlando bloom & why?
does any body know any different information about them.Who is the best keanu reeves or orlando bloom %26amp; why?
I love both becos they are both gorgeous... but if I really had to choose, it has to be Keanu Reeves. Cos even though he's lots older(he's 43 while Orlando is 30), he still looks young and stay so incredibly sexy and gorgeous!!! Plus, he has that mysterious and cool aura around him!!
He really came a long way to prove himself as an actor and despite his hardships in his personal life %26amp; career, I'm really glad he has achieved what he has today.
Though Keanu has always kept a very tight lid on his romantic and private life, I hope he can find a loving partner soon and lead a real happy life!!Who is the best keanu reeves or orlando bloom %26amp; why?
Keanu of course. Much more talented.
personally, i like keanu reeves better. he's just cooler to me. a lot of people think he is too stiff and wooden for an actor though.
Bloom is the better actor. I like Keanu but he screwed up 2 great films, and that I cannot forgive.
Devils Advocate ( bad acting )
Bram Stokers Dracula. ( weak english accent )
keanu reeves because he is gorgeous lol
keanu reeves is hot and i hate to say but i dont even know who orlando bloom is so abviously he must not be hotter

How do I keep poinsetia's blooming and fresh.?
How do I keep poinsetia's fresh and blooming throughout the holidays and beyond? How do I keep poinsetia's blooming and fresh.?
If you keep it indoors and limit the amount of light it gets, with cool dry conditions inside, I have had them hold their color from one Christmas to the next. One of the best for doing this is the variety ';Prestige';. The ';Freedom'; variety that is sold at chain stores are lucky to hold their color for the present Christmas season. Just water it when the soil dries out and periodically give it a shot of fertilizer and it should last or re-bloom for you several times. Make sure you use a fertilizer that has calcium/magnesium in it, feed it at a rate of 200 ppm. (1 tsp. per gallon of water for water soluble fertilizers)How do I keep poinsetia's blooming and fresh.?
First of all, it is impossible to keep your poinsettia in bloom all year. However, when it finishes blooming you can trick it into blooming again. Simply keep the plant in a room where it won鈥檛 get any light and take it out for about five hours each day. After about a month of this, keep the poinsettia in a well lit room and it will bloom again.
just keep it watered. I've had poinsettias bloom through may.

Is it alright to cut back my tiger lillies once they've bloomed?
They were pretty when they were in bloom now they are brown and wilted looking. Is it alright to cut them back and if so how short can I cut them?Is it alright to cut back my tiger lillies once they've bloomed?
on a tiger lily it is a rhizome, therefor you can cut it back right to the ground when it starts to yellow.i cut my stems as soon as the flower falls, then i cut the leaves to the ground when they yellow.a bulb is fed from the stalk and leaves, tulips, cannas ,daffodils and such,so you should let it die off completely.
also with lilies you should dig up and seperate the rhizome about every three to four years.it encourges the plant to produce and you get a whole bunch of new lilies.yaaaaa! Is it alright to cut back my tiger lillies once they've bloomed?
You may chop off the dead flower, but not the stem nor any leaves. When the bulb flowers, it uses up extensive energy. In order to have nice lilies next year, you must allow the plant to re-energize. That means that while you think the stem is worthless, the plant is actually re-organizing nitrients back to the bulb. Since the stem is green, it is also capable of making energy, which will be stored in the bulb (chlorophyll from the cells turns the stem green and chlorophyll is a necessary element to photosynthesis). Let the plant die back naturally, which it should do in about a month now. And next year ... gorgeous blooms!
it is best to let them die down as this way the energy is returned to the bulb. rememebr to pick off the seed heads!
listen to yo yo
you need to allow the plant to die back. You can cut off the flower part but allow them stem to go brown and wilt .Otherwise next year all you will get is green and no flower
Yes, tiger lillies are bulbs, you can cut them all the way down to the ground and they will still come back next year, the same with Caanas and other lillies and all plants that are bulb. For most bulb plants, for each bulb that you planted that next year you'll have 2-3 more bulbs on it for transplanting or just let them grow where they are, you can give some away to friends too.
I strongly believe that...Jitterbugjim is right on this one!

What are some edible flowers? It would be preferred if they were blooming in winter.?
I would also like to know if there are any flowers that you can eat the leaves instead of just the flowers. If you know of any edible catus either that would be helpful also. What are some edible flowers? It would be preferred if they were blooming in winter.?
What will be blooming in the winter really depends on where you live.
Edible cactus leaves, known as nopales (nopalitos or cactus pads), are available from warmer areas like California from February through November. Another part of the cactus plant, the prickly pear, is a fruit that is 2 to 4 inches long and can be diced like pineapple and used as a topping on yogurt or cereal or blended into a smoothie. Its skin is coarse and thick, %26amp; ranges in color from yellow or orange to magenta or red:

Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens L)... known as Canada tea, checkerberry, deerberry, spiceberry, teaberry, and mountain tea...is an evergreen plant that produces edible red berries in the Fall, that remain on the plant through the winter until the plant flowers again in the spring. Leaves can be chewed raw like a chewing gum %26amp; can be used to make a tea.

Pea Blossoms-- NOTE: Flowering ornamental sweet peas are poisonous.
Peach %26amp; Pineapple Guava blossoms, Peony petals, Primrose,
Queen Anne's Lace-- NOTE: The problem is, it is closely related to, and looks almost exactly like another wild plant, Wild or Poison Hemlock, which often grows profusely in similar habitats, and is said to be the most poisonous plant native to the United States. The best way to differentiate between the two plants is to remember that Queen Anne's Lace has a hairy stem, while the stems of Wild Hemlock are smooth and hairless and hollow with purple spots.
Radish %26amp; Rosemary flowers, Roses, Safflower, Sage, Savory %26amp; Scarlet Runner Bean flowers,
Scented Geraniums--NOTE: Citronelle variety may not be edible.
Snap Dragon, Squash, Sunflower, %26amp; Thyme blossoms
Sweet Woodruffflower--NOTE: Can have a blood thinning effect if eaten in large amounts
Tuberous Begonia - NOTE: Only Hybrids are edible,
Tulip Petals--NOTE: Some people have had strong allergic reactions to them. If touching them causes a rash, numbness etc. Don't eat them! Don't eat the bulbs ever.
Violets, Viola, Yucca Petals.
Many plants %26amp; herbs, such as mint, can be grown indoors in pots in the winter:

Another part of the cactus plant, the prickly pear, is a fruit that is 2 to 4 inches long and can be diced like pineapple and used as a topping on yogurt or cereal or blended into a smoothie. Its skin is coarse and thick, %26amp; ranges in color from yellow or orange to magenta or red:

Bloomaker- can I transplant them already bloomed in spring in Michigan?
I just bought a 4 vase bloomaker set (or forced-bulb) with the usual spring bloomers. They have already bloomed- is it possible to transplant them into soil or even potted soil, or is it best to leave them in their vases with water? I live in Michigan- if that makes a difference as far as when to plant.Bloomaker- can I transplant them already bloomed in spring in Michigan?
I have planted these bulbs, usually with good luck.
Just wait until it is warm enough. Won't hurt to try.
If they are tulips, I put them under a layer of chicken wire since the squirrels here think they are candy.

Should perenial flowerheads be removed after blooming to encourage stronger plants?
Why is that not true about bulb plants, such as tulips and daffodils?Should perenial flowerheads be removed after blooming to encourage stronger plants?
With all of the perennials that I have, I just let them bloom, let them die out, cut them down in the fall when the frost comes. Or I wait till spring and clean them up. You can deadhead plants if you choose. This will encourage the plant to produce more flowers. Plants want to produce more flowers because that is how they seed. Deadheading will allow the plant to focus its energy on creating new flowers than on trying to save the dead ones.
With bulbs, any kind (tulips, lilies, etc) once they have bloomed and the plant part has dried up, cut it off or gently pull the stem off. Be careful not to pull out the bulb; if you do replant it.Should perenial flowerheads be removed after blooming to encourage stronger plants?
Deadheading is not to encourage stronger plants, it is to promote more blooms. That is not true for bulbs because you need to allow them to dry up the tops and while they are doing that they are storing energy in the bulb for the future. I let my bulbs dry up on their own and then remove the dried up foliage. If it is removed before allowed to dry and store energy you will not get blooms the following year.
I always dead head my flowers after they start to get brown. This encourages more flowers to bloom. tulips, daffodils, and spring bulbs must have the leaves on until they die back on thier own. then you may pull them off, or cut them back.
L. S. gave you a right answer.
I agree with LS, too. I do deadhead perennials, when I can, as you prolong the blooming season that way. Deadheading also keeps the garden clean. While I'm not a clean freak in any way, a garden full of decaying plant materials can sometimes get ';dirty';. That is, pillbugs and other critters that eat the decay move in. If this upsets your Wa, you may want to do the deadheading for that reason alone.
Flowering bulbs can also be deadheaded, not to encourage branching or to prolong bloomtime so much, but to improve the look of the bed when bloomtime is over. As the others said, though, the leaves of bulbs need to be left alone until they dry up of their own accord.
It would also prolong the flowering season and stop the plants from going to seed.
It is true about tulips and daffodils, because you stop them producing seed, therefore, the energy from producing seed is diverted to the bulb and bulblets.

Is it necessary to pinch the blooms off a tomato plant in order for the fruit to grow?
some say the tomatoes will not flourish because the plant will expend to much energy toward the bloomsIs it necessary to pinch the blooms off a tomato plant in order for the fruit to grow?
Allen,
I wouldn't pinch the blooms off, I'd remove the suckers that appear at the ';V'; of a branch. This will reduce the amount of growth and allow the plant to devote more energy to the production of fruit. This is the reason a lot of tomato fertilizers are low in nitrogen. This prevents the plants from growing leggy with lots of foliage. I try to remove the suckers from most branches to allow a couple of main stems. The plant will fruit much better with larger and stronger (resist disease such as blight) tomatoes.
good luckIs it necessary to pinch the blooms off a tomato plant in order for the fruit to grow?
No. In fact if you do pinch them that will keep you from having the fruit grow there. It is a practice that diverts the plants energy to total growth rather than fruit production. So it depends on how large you want your plants to grow before they start to produce fruit.
Uhhh the blooms are the soon to be fruit. The reason you pinch them off when the plant is small is to encourage root and foliage growth. However once it is big enough(the plant) stop...

Heirloom morning glory seeds produced microscopic blooms?
Only .5';, before first frost. Would planting earlier help, or should I just try another variety? These were ';Heavenly';.Heirloom morning glory seeds produced microscopic blooms?
Hello, I have grown morning glories from seed. I have noticed that the flowers start out very small. I have to wonder if it is related to the size of the container they are in at the time. They produce flowers fast, if they are in a small cup, they get a tiny flower.
When transplanted they often wilt back, you can cut the tops off just leaving a small start of the vine, or just take off the wilted leaves and leave the vine. Hint, if you trim off the top, it makes your morning glory spread much faster.
Here in zone five they are considered an anual. But Beware! They have a habbit of comming back each year. Every year the flower leaves get bigger, and the flowers also get bigger as well. I had a moon flower (cousin to the morning glorie)
comming back for several years. It got so huge it was like a gigantic ground cover.
I got a request from some one for a vine, so I made every attempt to pull it it. It was so huge that we had to trim the top off to fit it in the trunk of the car. The roots were much like short but fat white carrots. But it had taken over my flower bed so it had to go. Morning glories open in morning where moonflower opens later in the afternoon. Moonflower has a nice glow from the moonlight at night.
If you are in a zone that allows the morning glorie to return, expect bigger flowers this spring/summer. I have a new seedling in a cup ready to pop open a tiny bloom.

What causes squash vines to produce blooms but no vegetables?
for two years now we have planted squash and cumbers, they bloom but produce no vegetables. what is my problem and how can I solve it?What causes squash vines to produce blooms but no vegetables?
It could be several reasons. Over watering can cause the blossoms to fall off before they ever open. Let your plants dry out in between watering's. Although the top of the soil make look dry it could still be wet underneath. Take your hand trowel and dig the depth of the trowel and see what you find. Also you need to be feeding with a vegi fertilizer only. Foods like miracle grow are good for flowers and shrubs etc. But vegis need different food, Miracle grow will cause new green growth and that is not what you are after.
Another reason could be lack of pollinating insects in your garden area, if you or your neighbor have used pesticides your beneficial insects may have left. You can pollinate yourself with a small paintbrush going from flower to flower, just think of your self as a busy-bee!
You may also need to amend your soil, which is difficult now that your plants are established. Add some very good mulch around the top of your plants you can buy mulch at any garden center. Next year add in right into your soil before you plant.
God Bless
GrandmaWhat causes squash vines to produce blooms but no vegetables?
Make sure you feed your garden with a good quality fertilizer. Cucumbers and squash also require a lot of water. I also aerate my garden weekly with my ';Garden Claw';. You could also try pinching off some blooms to encourage the other ones to develop.

Have you still got roses blooming in your garden?
I went to the park today and was surprised by the amount of buds still on the rose bushes.Have you still got roses blooming in your garden?
I don't have a garden but i have noticed the flowers that are still around, It is very mild for the time of year.Have you still got roses blooming in your garden?
The buds will not open properly,as they will rot the moment they start to open out.The rain rots them as not enough heat to dry the wet out.
If you have buds in your garden, cut them off as the poor rose needs a rest, and producing buds (seeds)is taking a lot of energy from the plant.
No, no roses in my garden, D. They're a bit high maintainance are roses, I stick to the 'if it comes up it deserves to stay up' method of gardening...
I did have until the frost got hold of them at the start of the week.

It means a question where you apply what you know to something else. For example, how would you apply what you learn in math to some real life problem. Such questions usually have words such as apply, demonstrate, calculate, complete, illustrate, show, solve, examine, modify, relate, change, classify, experiment, discover. Questions might be of the type:

Brief relationship history...
Bloom met American actress Kate Bosworth outside a coffee shop in 2002, where he was introduced to her by a mutual friend, soon after he met her again at the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers later in that year. The two had an ';on-and-off relationship';[4] from 2002 until splitting up in September of 2006.[17][18] Bloom has also been linked to model Miranda Kerr,[2] and actresses Uma Thurman, Kirsten Dunst, Sienna Miller, Jessica Biel and Pen茅lope Cruz.[4][8]

It must be true!! It's in the liberal news! You know how they hate a story they can't put a ';hate Bush'; spin to!!Our work in Iraq is starting to bloom...This incident was settled without the coalition interfering, just iraqi
I hope so. I have my misgivings though.
As most americans think. we have a new democracy. being set up.ow boy. lets slape a little capitilism on them. set up some malls, and buisness institutions. and we will have another state in the union soon.personaly, I think we should leave those people over there alone. and take care of our own people .Y'all
I'm sure the 80 dead US soldiers last month alone would agree with you. If you mean by bloom more dead US soldiers and Iraqi civilians then it's a regular freaking garden. The situation is totally out of control and yet our idiot president just the other day said he will not change tactics. Maybe the White House should move to Baghdad for awhile if he feels the situation is so under control.
You should read the current news, it is a mess
A small plot of land with minor signs of progress reported in the news devoid of the harsh realities of the rest of Iraq's plight does not make for even a small victory. I am in full support of our men and women over there but not the war!

Orlando Bloom picture (when he was a teen or younger)?
My sister and I have searched all over the internet, but we can't find a picture of Orlando Bloom when he was younger (before LOTR, like when he was a teenager, preteen, baby, whatever). Does anyone know of any? Thanks!Orlando Bloom picture (when he was a teen or younger)?
This address has photos of him at ages 3, 4, 12, 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27. And if thats not enough I don't think anything ever will be. Nothing personal because we'd be in the same boat!

Who is better jonny depp or orlando bloom?
pirates of the carabeinWho is better jonny depp or orlando bloom?
I gotta go with Johnny Depp.
I like Orlando Bloom well enough, I suppose, but he's still relatively young as an actor. He's making some good choices, but only time will tell how it all plays out. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, though...
Here's what I like about Johnny Depp, though: When he started out, he was pigeonholed as a pretty-boy, teen idol guy. They tried to give him those kinds of jobs, market him that way, etc, and he refused. He could've just ridden the teen idol train for as long as it would carry him, made a bunch of money (and cheesy, pop-fluff movies), and then faded into obscurity. Instead, he chose to reject the teen idol thing, and took serious movies, independent movies, experimental movies, and anything that he found artistically interesting. He chose craft and substance over fame and fortune.
Of course, as a result, he's gotten more fame and fortune than he would've otherwise... but he did it the right way. I respect him as a craftsman. He has transcended ';actor'; and become an ';artist.';
Orlando may go the same route, but it's still too early to make the call.
If, however, you're really asking who's cuter (or some other teen girl type concern)... Well, I don't know. I'm a guy -- a straight guy -- so I'm not really into dudes. However, if I was a girl, I guess I'd still lean toward Depp. Orlando's build is a little too thin and girly...Who is better jonny depp or orlando bloom?
Johnny Depp for sure !!!!! Orlando is just really good replacement !
But Johnny is really really IT ! He's cool and seems to be sort of a responsible type person !!!!
I like Orlando better but Johnny is definitely nothing to turn from!
Johnny Depp by far. Orlando Bloom is talented and hansome but Johnny takes the cake.

If you're more attractive than orlando bloom...would you want to work as a labour or try to become a model?
honest answers pleaseIf you're more attractive than orlando bloom...would you want to work as a labour or try to become a model?
I highly doubt there's anyone more attractive than Orlando Bloom...If you're more attractive than orlando bloom...would you want to work as a labour or try to become a model?
it all depends on what you want to do. if you think you would enjoy modeling and be good at it, then go for it. but if you would rather have a career as something else doing something that you love to do, go for it, even if it isn't modeling. looks are great, but they won't make you happy and they don't really matter unless you are happy with your life and what you are doing.loan rates

My Cape Honeysuckle plant is blooming here in the Woodlands, Texas in the late fall is that normal???
I have a cape honeysuckle plant that is finally producing flowers starting about 3 weeks ago around november 8th. That plant grew great all summer and spring but never produced a single orange flower. Now it is blooming like crazy. I wonder why. Is it normal for that plant to bloom this late in the fall? I hope the cold weather does not affect it. It is weird that it did not bloom during the spring and summer. My Cape Honeysuckle plant is blooming here in the Woodlands, Texas in the late fall is that normal???
Because of the strange weather all around the world, trees/shrubs/flowers are starting to bloom. Only time will tell if they make it through the winter.
Years ago, this same situation happened to our area. Many plants did not make it and had to be removed the next summer.
You will have to sit back and wait to see what happens. My Cape Honeysuckle plant is blooming here in the Woodlands, Texas in the late fall is that normal???
As you are probably aware the Cape Honeysuckle(Tecomaria capensis) is indigenous to RSA and is fairly common here. Mine started flowering about a month ago as they naturally do. Could it be that your plant is just in sync. with the plants in its natural habitat even though it is so far removed from its home turf.
It would be very interesting to hear what the others have to say about this.
I would say that given the fact that you are in Texas and probably at the very least zone 8 it is not at all strange that your Cape Honeysuckle is in bloom. I don't think it will hurt anything thing and provided you have a very mild winter, you may see it bloom well into winter. Plants usually know when to bloom and your honeysuckle may very well be a Spring and Autumn bloomer. Anyhow, enjoy it while you can.
Good Luck
