What causes squash vines to produce blooms but no vegetables?

for two years now we have planted squash and cumbers, they bloom but produce no vegetables. what is my problem and how can I solve it?What causes squash vines to produce blooms but no vegetables?
It could be several reasons. Over watering can cause the blossoms to fall off before they ever open. Let your plants dry out in between watering's. Although the top of the soil make look dry it could still be wet underneath. Take your hand trowel and dig the depth of the trowel and see what you find. Also you need to be feeding with a vegi fertilizer only. Foods like miracle grow are good for flowers and shrubs etc. But vegis need different food, Miracle grow will cause new green growth and that is not what you are after.

Another reason could be lack of pollinating insects in your garden area, if you or your neighbor have used pesticides your beneficial insects may have left. You can pollinate yourself with a small paintbrush going from flower to flower, just think of your self as a busy-bee!

You may also need to amend your soil, which is difficult now that your plants are established. Add some very good mulch around the top of your plants you can buy mulch at any garden center. Next year add in right into your soil before you plant.

God Bless

Make sure you feed your garden with a good quality fertilizer. Cucumbers and squash also require a lot of water. I also aerate my garden weekly with my ';Garden Claw';. You could also try pinching off some blooms to encourage the other ones to develop.
